Steve Damiani’s boxing program has changed the way I train as a professional athlete. Training is something I do on a daily basis, but not like this program. It has made me understand the meaning behind hard work, and desire. Steve pushes my body to limits that I wouldn’t ever imagine doing myself. Everyone that I know that wants to push themselves, I recommend they meet Steve, because he challenges you each and every session.

I had been trying to lose about 20 lbs for as long as I can remember. I tried liquid diets, Atkins, you name it, and nothing worked. Finally, about 6 months ago a friend convinced me to try Spin classes.
The classes are not just great for my health, but the instructors make them fun: The time just flies and, believe it or not, some of us even plan our weekends AROUND the Saturday morning class, so as not to miss it.
I have lost 12 lbs in the last 3 months, feel great and plan on losing even more!

Everyone knows what a cold and icy winter we had this year [2013-2014]. My husband and I made an effort to get to the gym a couple of times a week to help deal with monotony of this long winter. It helped keep us healthy and was good for the spirits! We could have used the cold as an excuse to stay inside and plump up, but we walked, spun, weight-trained and stair-stepped our way through the winter so we can have a healthier spring.

I live in Amityville. I like that I can walk to the gym. I have seen a vast improvement in service in 15 or so years I have been a member. There are bigger gyms with more facilities but I have never been to a friendlier place and I feel at home.
I want to let you know how grateful I am that I was a member of your gym. I started taking my daughter with me years ago. She started out in your Daycare and through the years became a member. At first, she was nervous but, as time went on she was on the elliptical much longer than me. Half the fun was just driving there and back chit chatting but, our destination was always your gym. She went and did what kids do. She grew up and her interests changed though the trips to the gym became more infrequent, the time spent together was priceless. Now we have moved but your gym will always be a special place for us. Chris has been wonderful to us through the years thank you for all your kindness.

Your senior exercise program is excellent
They say that your life is marked by various milestones, for example the birth of a child, getting married, buying your first home and I have experienced all of these but sometimes the most
unexpected things change your life in the most positive of ways.
I had one of those life changing moments when I walked into Big Als for my first appointment with Kara, my personal trainer. I was 48, morbidly obese, and unbelievably unhappy, although I hid it behind a big smile. I wasn’t fully living my life, I watched it from the sidelines.
Then Kara came into my life, bringing with her an enthusiasm for exercise, good health, and wellness that I wasn’t even aware was missing from my life. She made me want it and more importantly she made me believe that I could do it.
We started out slowly, half an hour twice a week. She never once made me feel uncomfortable, never made me doubt myself. I began to actually enjoy it, my sessions with her became the highlight of my week. Kara also instilled in me the importance of backing up the exercise with healthy eating and good nutrition.
Then something clicked.
Eating right, Kara’s weight training, and my almost daily visits to Big Als began to pay off. I saw my body change, watched the weight melt off. I could do things in the gym that I never thought I could. I ran, I lifted, I pulled myself up, I flipped tires and planked, whatever Kara said, I did. I pushed myself harder than I ever thought I would… And I loved every second of it.
It’s now about 2 years later. I’ve lost over 150 pounds and I’m still as motivated as I was in the beginning. My time in the gym is still the highlight of my week. Of course I’ve hit plateaus, my weight loss stalled a bit but I never doubt, not even for a second, that I will reach my goal. Kara has trained me well, so I know that any obstacles I encounter are just bumps in the road and that if I just push myself a bit harder I’ll succeed. Together Kara and I will overcome any challenges on my journey . She has just recommended the Good Eats Program to change up my diet as well as joining Team Training classes to further challenge myself. I look forward to both, but my training sessions with her are what made the difference in my life.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my experiences with you. Joining Big Als was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Everyone on staff has been so wonderful and encouraging and of course I couldn’t speak any higher of my personal trainer, Kara.
I joined Big Al’s Family Fitness in Westbury about six months ago. I was overweight, tired and battling back pain. I had never loved the gym (ok i usually hated it) and even stopped walking and practicing yoga. I had fallen into a rut and wasn’t motivated to regularly exercise.
When I was offered a consultation with the personal training department I was interested but hesitant to leave my comfort zone of group classes and the cardio machines. These are still great options but I needed a change.
Eight months ago Jason helped to redirect my life by talking to me on a personal level about how training could help me. He made it about me and didn’t sell me a program or service to sign up for. He matched me with with a trainer who has helped me to excel since my first trial session. And his positive influence doesn’t end there. Anytime I see Jason I’m met with a big smile, a high-five and encouragement to keep going.
I walked into my first session in terrible back pain and on prescription meds to manage inflammation and muscle spasms. I haven’t taken meds or had any pain since that first workout. Not only am I pain free but in about 6 months I have lost 20lbs and have developed muscle strength and definition that I have never had.
Even better, fitness is now my passion. I’m not only loving every workout with my trainer, Dylan Swift. But I can now workout (almost) as hard as I do under his guidance. My hand eye coordination has improved and I have better flexibility.
I am challenged every week during my sessions with Dylan. I believe my progress has been accelerated from his personalized workouts. I am able to increase the difficulty of my own workouts bc of his coaching. And I thrive with the mental and physical challenges our training sessions present to me.
Dylan is motivating and able to adjust each session to my changing fitness level. He is a great role model and source of info, fitness or nutrition related. He’s even given me some great mp3 suggestions to add to my workout play list.
I made the commitment to personal training and have felt improvements in every aspect of my life. I feel better, eat better and sleep better. I’m more focused, happier and even calmer. Big Al’s Personal Training department truly can help you to increase your wellness physically, mentally and emotionally. If you let it.
I joined the gym back in October wanting to lose weight, and I’ve been coming 3x a week training with Todd and it’s been fantastic. He really knows how to motivate me during our personal training sessions. He pushes me to do my best and in return I’ve lost almost 30lbs in two months. I would strongly encourage people who are struggling with weight loss to consider at least changing their mindset of a diet to a lifestyle change.
